Dr. Pettine was a co-founder of RMA Ortho in 1991. He has an extensive background in spinal surgery, research and rehabilitation. He is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and the International Spine Injection Society. He received his fellowship training at the Institute for Low Back Care in Minneapolis. Dr. Pettine completed his residency and his master's degree in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His medical degree was awarded from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Pettine is currently the chief F.D.A, I.D.E. investigator for the Raymedica lumbar nucleus disc replacement, Maverick lumbar artificial disc replacement, Spinal Motion cervical and lumbar total disc arthroplasty, Neodisc cervical disc replacement, Abbot Wallis device, DePuy Discover cervical disc replacement, Facet Solutions Acadia lumbar facet replacement, and Paradigm Spine Coflex interspinous device.

Dr. Pettine is the recipient of numerous honors, a distinguished speaker at national and international symposiums, and the author of nearly twenty research publications. He has three patents for artificial disc replacement technology for the neck and back, and a patent for lumbar interspinous non-fusion technology.
